“Getting an audience is hard. Sustaining an audience is hard. It demands a consistency of thought, of purpose and of action over a long period of time.” – Bruce Springsteen

The last time I wrote a blog post was in August. If you follow me on social media I talk about consistency and purpose quite frequently. Like many, I struggle with consistency daily. Whether it’s maintaining a physical, financial or business goal I struggle just like you.  As a mother, finding balance between maintaining the household, finding me time, and caring for my family has affected my ability to stay consistent. If you know me than you know I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeves. Lately I’ve been using these five tips to help improve my consistency and achieving my goals. I hope you find these tips helpful and apply them to achieve your daily goals!

CONSISTENCY TIP #1:  Take a look at your schedule

When I decided to restart my fitness journey, I carefully looked at my work schedule as well Erick’s schedule. I wanted to assure that the time carved out for my workout would make sense for our family. It turns out, morning workouts would work best for everyone. Ultimately you must decide what’s best for you, and your family. Figure out what time/day is optimal to achieve your goal. Obviously, things can change; pivoting is ok. If you carve out a time daily, you will likely commit and stay consistent.

CONSISTENCY TIP #2: Make it a priority

Staying consistent is a choice. Ultimately you must decide what is important to you. After you’ve categorized what’s important, it will be easier to make it a priority. Once a priority, it will become a habit.  I knew I wanted to lose a few pounds, so I knew I had to prioritize and allocate time for my workouts. If you value what’s important you will in turn prioritize it.  Ultimately, that meant working out took precedence over watching tv or aimlessly scrolling on social media. So, make a commitment to yourself, and make it a priority. The more you make it a priority the more it will become a habit.

CONSISTENCY TIP # 3: Find an accountability partner

Two heads are better than one. In life much like anything else, having someone on your journey is always helpful. Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor was it built by one man. Finding an accountability partner can help you achieve your goal of staying consistent, but it may also motivate you go beyond your goal. Erick is my accountability partner. In every goal I set he is right by my side reminding me why I started and where I want to be. There are days when I didn’t feel like working out, but because of his support and love I got out the bed and pushed through. Sometimes all you need to stay consistent is a someone who will keep you accountable.

CONSISTENCY TIP # 4: Give yourself some grace

I don’t know about you, but I have had several setbacks. Sometimes falling off the wagon happens, but it’s how we respond to it that matters. No matter how many times I have falling off, I always get back up. Nothing fuels me more than achieving a goal I set out for myself. But I also know that I am human and things happen. By giving yourself some grace, it will and can give you more humility when you get back up.

CONSISTENCY TIP #5: Set small goals

Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Any goal you set can be overwhelming, that’s why I think setting goals in small increments is more reasonable than aiming for bigger ones. So instead of saying I want to lose 15 lbs., I would break down those 15lb in 5lbs increments. For example; lose 5 lbs. per month. When broken down that way, it is less overwhelming. When I set out my fitness goals, I knew I wanted to work out at least 3 times a day. As I grew more comfortable
