Hello and welcome back to my blog!
I wanted to share this lactation smoothie recipe that I used while I was breastfeeding.
With the right preparation and education, I was able to breastfeed Erick for 11 months. I will say that the blood sweat, and tears were all worth it. I always wanted to breastfeed, so I prepared. I did my research, purchased the right accessories but I sometimes fell short. The thought of my milk production decreasing gave me slight anxiety.
So today I am sharing a lactation smoothie that helped me increase my milk production. Coupled with pumping religiously every 3 hours, hydrating and getting enough rest when I could, this smoothie really help me maintain my production.
There are many ways to boost your milk production (lactation cookies, bars etc.), I personally enjoy a smoothie in the am, so that’s what I did. I made this smoothie religiously every day, when I noticed a dip in my breastmilk production and even when it was stable. The up side is that its tasty and it didn’t feel like something I needed to drink.
The recipe is simple and calls for 6 ingredients
1.Bananas-Bananas contain Vitamin B6. This vitamin helps produce antibodies that are essential for fighting off infections. They are full of potassium and fiber, and between you and I they are quite tasty.
2. Flaxseed-It contains properties that can help produce more milk
3.Oatmeal-Just like bananas it is a great source of fiber, proteins, vitamins, and minerals.
4. Brewer’s yeast-Brewer’s yeast is considered to be a great galactagogue and help increase breastfeeding.
5. Chia seed-They contain an excellent source of proteins, fats and iron,
6. Milk-I opted for almond milk, but feel free to use what you prefer
Toss ingredients in the blender and blend well. Add ice and a dash of cinnamon if preferred. Don’t forget, taking this smoothie without breastfeeding on demand/ pumping regularly will not yield results. This smoothie is in addition to emptying out the breast.
I also added the youtube link for those of you who are visual.
