About four months after we found out we were expecting, Erick surprised me with a maternity shoot as a valentines day present. I must admit, initially I didn’t want one. Physically I wasn’t up to it. He finally convinced me and boy am I glad we did it. I now have precious moments with my son in my belly, and lasting memories of my first pregnancy. I really enjoyed our shoot and we were beyond happy with the results. I also cant wait to show these pictures to Trey when he is older. Here are some tips and tricks when getting ready for a maternity shoot!

  • IDENTIFY YOUR THEME IN ADVANCE
  • PICK YOUR OUTFITS.
  • PICK A PHOTOGRAPHER.
  • HAVE FUN

IDENTIFY YOUR THEME IN ADVANCE

IDENTIFY YOUR THEME IN ADVANCE. I knew from jump that I wanted a glam and a chill shoot. The first theme was inspired by wanting to capture us in our daily element at home in chill clothes. No pressure, no must no fuss. The second theme was simply based on my love for dressing up lol. Picking themes in advance will help with picking out outfits and locations.

PICK YOUR OUTFITS. This was the most difficult task. I say this because picking an outfit for a growing belly can be a daunting task. That is why I opted for two dresses that had plenty of stretch! As for Erick, i just made sure his looks complemented mine. High heels were a must for my glam shoot, but trust i had flats near by for use in between takes and walking around!

PICK A PHOTOGRAPHER. This was easy as Erick used her in the past. I would suggest someone that understand your vision and who is within your price range. Opt for someone you are comfortable with and who is experienced. The last thing you want is someone who doesn’t know what they are doing or afraid to try something innovative.

PICK A LOCATION
Lucky for us, our photographer sent us a few options to pick from. I am usually the control type, but in this case I was glad I didn’t have to scramble for a location. She chose these locations based on our glam theme and she nailed it right on the head!

HAVE FUN . Creating memories to commemorate the arrival of your bundle of joy is a moment we will hold on to for a lifetime. We had a great time shooting. for us, this shoot was more than taking pictures, it was about celebrating the best gift God has blessed us with. And for that we are smiling ear to ear!!

I hope these tips guide you when scheduling your shoot. Remember to IDENTIFY YOUR THEME IN ADVANCEPICK YOUR OUTFITS.PICK A PHOTOGRAPHER. HAVE FUN!!
