Pumpkin Patch 2019

Hi guys,

Fall is upon us and we made our way to Pumpkin patch a few weeks ago, and it was wonderful. This year we went to Cox Farms in Centerville, Va. We went to a different farm last year when trey was 4 months old. For obvious reasons, he didn’t get to enjoy it as much as we did. This year, it was important for us to bring him back so he could enjoy the experience. As a young child I don’t have a clear memory of going go pumpkin patch or any type of fall activities. Don’t get me wrong, I probably went during my school days, but I have no recollection. Our main goal is to create opportunities for Trey to experience places, learn through discovery and expose him to any and everything possible.
In this post I will share tips used for a great day at Pumpkin patch.

Do your research. For obvious reasons, research is key when it comes to picking any kid friendly activity. My research was limited for this activity as it was recommended by a friend. Once she suggested we go to this farm, I did my due diligence and looked up location, pricing as well as the activities offered. Those are primarily the 3 areas I would research for a pumpkin patch. Pricing is self-explanatory. Keep in mind, attending during the week and low peak season will be less costly. Also, keep in mind your children’s age and make sure there are activities for their age range. Location is of importance especially if you are traveling with little ones, coordination around feedings and sleeping routine must be considered.

Bring money.  Some pumpkin patch do not accept cards. Make sure you have money to fully enjoy your day.

Check the weather.  Staying cool or keeping warm during an outing can really make or break you. The day we went, it was 90 degrees. I made sure to check the weather, to better prepare. We were equipped with sunscreen, hats and water. Typically, it isn’t this warm during pumpkin patch season, but we made the best of it.

Dress accordingly.   Being comfortable and cute for this activity was my priority, therefore I knew I need an outfit that would be able to do both.  I opted for overalls and it was the perfect outfit! Trey and I wore matching overalls, while dad kept it cool in shorts and t-shirts. We made sure to apply sunscreen regularly, we stayed hydrated and wore hats.

Use a stroller/carrier Trey is 15 months old and we couldn’t imagine walking around the farm without the stroller. We took our vista stroller which allowed for big basket storage for Trey’s bag, our personal items and more. For most activities you must pack your stroller in a designated area prior to entering the attraction.

Bring your own snacks.   As we know, family outings can add up quickly.  Bringing your own snacks can substantially cut down costs. For this farm, no bags were checked or anything of that nature. Before you do, make sure to check the website for information about bringing your own food.

I hope these tips help!! Have you been to a pumpkin patch yet? What tips are you using? Please share below.
